Most of us have moments where we feel happy. We look at our children and their laughs make us smile. We go and enjoy a holiday in exotic parts of the world with friends and family. Maybe we read a good book and enjoy a picnic with our spouse. However, when was the last time you experienced pure joy?
Talking to people who are new acquaintances is something most people admit is something they find difficult. For some people, talking to people, they don’t know, can create so much stress they prefer to stay home or only talk to family and friends, rather than face the stress of a social gathering or business meeting.
How confident do you feel today? Probably like most people, you are feeling a little less self confident about at least one thing in your life. That is perfectly normal, especially if our life experiences are taking us a little out of our comfort zone. The problem arises when low self-esteem and feelings of low self worth are something we carry around with us all the time.
When we are worrying about something, it usually shows on our face. We often think we are looking and acting normal, but stress and worry usually manifests itself in some way. Smiling is often the last thing we feel like doing, particularly in the darkest of times. Yet, when we learn to smile in spite of our problems, we open a door to a new kind of energy that can sometimes bring relief from the pain we are carrying.
How do you feel about yourself today? Are you thinking that if you could just lose weight you would feel happy, or life would be perfect? Are you wishing you had enough money to go buy that hot new car that will make you the envy of your friends? For many of us, our body image or our possessions help define what we think of our self. We live in the future rather than in the present.
Have you just had a major change in your life, something that upset you, hurt you, or made you angry or upset? When these things happen, especially when we feel betrayed or let down by people we love, it’s easy to feel that we can never trust people again. The effect of one or two negative things in our life can cause us to spiral on a path of seeming no return as our negative thought life convinces never to trust people again. We may even lose confidence in our own ability to make good decisions.
Many of the actions and decisions we make in life happen at a subconscious level. Our subconscious is the feeling, thinking part of us that drives our perceptions, and often our decision-making processes. Often thought of as “instinct” or “gut feeling” we often rely on our subconscious and when we are feeling positive and happy about our lives, we are usually confident we are making the right decisions. On other occasions, however, our perceptions can be clouded by stress and other such factors and dwelling on these things can lead to inappropriate reactions as we focus on the perceptions and not the facts of the situation.
All of us influence someone. We may not be leaders, but we are in leadership. We may not be powerful but we have power. We may not have responsibility but we are responsible. An old adage states, “No man is an Island.” Even those people living the most isolated of lifestyles have influenced someone, are influencing someone or will influence someone. You cannot be human and not influence someone or something in your world. Do you know the power of your personal accountability and the influence you have on the world around you?
